Creative Jobs Behind the Scenes: A Program for Talented Newcomers at Stage|Set|Scenery

Whether stage technicians, lighting and sound engineers, stage managers, media technicians, costume artists, or scenographers -- they are the real stars of an event behind the scenes. For quite often it requires their expert lighting skills to create a dramatic scene or a spectacular set to transform a production into an unforgettable event for the audience. Technically oriented theatre, film, and event careers are wíde-ranging and creative. This is something that the international trade show and conference Stage|Set|Scenery, which will take place from June 20 - 22 in Berlin, aims to take into account by organizing a special program for young professionals. The reason is a decline in young people learning technical skills, which has led to growing competition on the home and international employment market. This is where Stage|Set|Scenery will seize the opportunity to promote a dialogue between cultural institutions and the employees of the future.

Business colleges, universities, and other professional training institutions will be represented in Hall 23. Next door in Hall 22, on the stage area of A. Haussmann Theaterbedarf GmbH, interested trade visitors can try out their own skills with a brush. In the same hall international associations and institutions will provide information about career opportunities in Germany and abroad. In addition to personal career advice, talented young people will also find a job wall offering vacancies. By visiting the Stage|Set|Scenery Virtual Market Place at www.virtualmarket.stage-set-scenery.com they can also submit their job applications and ask for appointments with interested companies ahead of the fair. In Hall 23 the Anatomical Theatre developed by DTHG based on designs by Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden, and supported by CAST, ETC, and Lichtblick, will provide Stage|Set|Scenery with a location for holding numerous training courses for students of all ages, newcomers, and professionals.

Following the successful debut of the Weltenbauer.Award a new event will be taking place at Stage|Set|Scenery: the Weltenbauer Youngsters.Awards. 150 years ago the opera Roméo et Juliette was first performed by Charles Gounod on April 27, 1867. It is with this event in mind that an assignment will be given to the contestants of the Weltenbauer.Youngsters.Awards: www.weltenbauer.global. Trainees, students (ranging from schools to vocational and higher education) from any country specializing in the theatre, film, and event technology are invited to submit their designs and works on the subject of Romeo and Juliet. These may be individual or team works focusing on stage design, the theatre stage, costumes, decoration, set design, make-up, lighting concepts, videos, or audio installations. The deadline for entries is March 30, 2017. The winners will be honored at the presentation of the Weltenbauer.Youngsters.Awards in the Palais am Funkturm on June 20, 2017. The event will begin at 6:30pm.

Admission is free for school classes, groups of students, and accompanying teachers and lecturers. To obtain a free ticket registration is required in writing no later than June 1, 2017 by emailing stage-set-scenery@messe-berlin.de. Pupils and students who wish to attend the show on their own can purchase reduced-rate day tickets costing 10 euros at the ticket office. A valid student ID is required. Tickets also grant admission to the conference.
