Kinetic Lighting Expands Role for 71st Annual Primetime Emmys For the ninth consecutive year, Kinetic Lighting has supplied lighting for setups related to the Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. For client FOX Broadcasting, Kinetic handled lighting for areas connected to the 71st annual awards show, including the red carpet arrivals area at L.A. LIVE, as well as ballrooms within the JW Marriott hotel that comprised the event's press center. Kinetic began installation for the large-scale project on September 11, for a full 12 days of load-in and execution leading up to the show on September 22, 2019. The company's role included providing everything from lighting and truss structure, to the water coolers that helped keep the team safely hydrated in the late-summer heat. This year, Kinetic took on an increased role on the project as well, serving as the event's technical services provider, managing, processing, and administrating the host network's interaction with the throng of international press outlets. Leading the team for Kinetic were principal James Schipper; technical director David Jacobi; lighting designer Jeff Ravitz; project manager Austin Gebhardt; and production electricians Dustin Cook (arrivals) and Richard Batt (press center). "This year was a great Emmys, and we had a very solid team," Gebhardt said. "One of my favorite new items this year were the oversized fans [from Big Ass Fans] that ran down the center of the purple carpet. They provided some nice air flow through the carpet." Schipper added, "Our technical director David Jacobi led our entire team in overcoming the myriad challenges a project of this scale presents; I couldn't be more proud.
