Event Safety Alliance to Host Four Regional Two-Day Crowd Safety WorkshopsFestivals, concerts, conferences, graduations, and athletic events all share one common characteristic -- they all feature crowds. For work that involves planning to accommodate large groups of people, event organizers need to know how to plan to mitigate these risks and keep their crowds safe. To provide an in-depth look at the details of crowd safety planning, Event Safety Alliance welcomes UK-based crowd management expert Eric Stuart for four regional two-day workshops: Crowd Safety: Combining Math, Physics, Psychology, and Behaviors to Achieve Safe Outcomes. Theses courses aim to provide an understanding of the four aspects of basic crowd safety and to provide techniques to plan and manage safe pedestrian flows in crowded places during all phases of an event including emergencies. Topics of discussion will include: * The main risks in managing crowds * The differences between crowd management and crowd control * Phases of crowds and their psychology * Calculating flow rates and density for people in crowded places * Identifying crowd behaviors in emergency situations and how to manage them * Understanding how to use non-computer models to plan for crowds * Understanding human behaviors that affect crowds: Route modeling, normalcy bias, dread theory, de-individuation, and the reticular activation system.
