New Video, Theatre Lighting for Photosensitivity, Now Streaming on USA 829 Vimeo

In recognition of Epilepsy Awareness Month, United Scenic Artists Local USA 829 and the EpiArts Alliance have released a new training video, Theatre Lighting for Photosensitivity, on the USA 829 Vimeo channel.

This video offers guidance from lighting designer Donald Holder and photosensitivity researcher Dr. Arnold Wilkins, offering an in-depth look at how theatrical lighting can affect photosensitive individuals, including those with epilepsy, and how designers can make performances safer and more inclusive through thoughtful, empathetic design.

The video also highlights the FlashCue Project, introduced by Nicole Hughes, an initiative aimed at building a public database of flashing light cues from Broadway and professional theater productions. FlashCue is working to ensure audiences, especially those living with photosensitivity, have access to clear information about potentially triggering cues before attending a show.

Topics covered include understanding the science of photosensitivity and light-based triggers; real-life experiences from photosensitive audience members; best practices for designing with accessibility and safety in mind; and how to support and contribute to the FlashCue Project.

Watch now on the USA 829 Vimeo channel: vimeo.com/1069288682 . For more information about FlashCue, go to flashcues.com/.
