Barco Introduces 20,000-Lumen Rental Projector with Light-on-Demand OptionBarco, a manufacturer of projection technology, is expanding its HDX family of three-chip DLP projectors with a new member. The HDX-W20 FLEX shares the on-board image processing, compact design, easy servicing, and preview mode features with its W12, W14, and W18 cousins, but offers a light output of 20,000 lumens. In addition, the HDX-W20 FLEX will be standard equipped with the light-on-demand option, which gives rental companies the flexibility to tune their projector's light output to the specific needs of their customer's event. Barco will unveil the new HDX-W20 FLEX projector at InfoComm, June 12 - 14 in Orlando, Florida. The HDX-W20 FLEX will be commercially available as of mid-July. "By adding this fourth member to our high-performance HDX series of large venue projectors, we satisfy customer requirements for more brightness out of a compact projector model," says Alexis Skatchkoff, product manager at Barco. "We have also upgraded the light-on-demand option to 20,000 lumens -- replacing the 18,000 lumens available on the HDX-W18 FLEX. With our unique light-on-demand technology on the HDX, HDF, and HDQ series, rental companies can standardize their fleet on a few projector models, tune the light output to the requirements of the event, and limit the running cost of their projector fleet." The brand-new HDX-W20 FLEX's Xenon lamps and high-contrast optical engine provide crisp images with rich colors on every occasion. What's more, with the light-on-demand option, the projector can be configured to generate any light output between 10,000 and 20,000 lumens in incremental steps of 2,000 lumens. Like the other HDX projectors, it is equipped with on-board image processing technology based on Barco's ImagePRO signal processor with Athena scaler, offering high-quality and flexible scaling capabilities. The heavy-duty HDX projectors are built for the live event industry and come with a rugged metal chassis for optimal durability. In addition to all these features, from now on, the SENSIO Autodetect and SENSIO 3D Decoder technologies will be integrated in the Barco HDX, HDF, and HDQ 3D card. The SENSIO Autodetect technology allows for reliable and fast detection of the most commonly used 3D frame-compatible formats -- including the award-winning SENSIO Hi-Fi 3D format used in theaters worldwide and for live 3D events -- while the SENSIO 3D Decoder enables their decoding. Used together, they allow for a high-quality and universal solution for 3D content decoding while eliminating all the complexities, costs, and configuration issues associated with the manual selection of formats. "In this period of flourishing 3D activity, SENSIO's solutions add powerful functionalities to our events projectors and are the perfect answer to our partners' need for comprehensive 3D systems that operate smoothly. Thanks to SENSIO's technology our projectors display perfect 3D images," comments Skatchkoff. "What's more, they can easily be upgraded for this 3D option in the field by installing a 3D card." The HDX, HDF, and HDQ series projectors now also come with new firmware that supports direct warping. This revamped warp interface allows users to immediately see the warped image after correction, thus guaranteeing faster and more accurate adjustments, even without a PC. All of Barco's HDX, HDF, and HDQ projectors come with extended wireless control capabilities, which have been updated for full mobile phone support in the latest version of the projector software. With this upgrade, users can now control their projector via mobile phone and send instructions to the projector via SMS. Barco will be showcasing its latest projection technology at InfoComm, Orlando, Florida, June 12 - 14, at booth 2543.
