Austrian Audio OC818 Mics Again at the 63rd Grammy Awards

Pandemic or not, Music's Biggest Night will air on March 14, 2021 to recognize excellence in music released in late 2019 and 2020. The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will look a little different than in past years, but just like last year, Michael Abbott, who is in charge of all things audio for the show, will be using multiple pairs of Austrian Audio OC818 microphones as overhead microphones on the artists' drum kits.

Abbott used Austrian Audio mics last year when the 62nd Grammy Awards were broadcast live from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, and he was pleased with the experience: "The engineers and myself were very impressed how the mics coverage on drums worked. I am going to spec for my projects coming up."

The amount of music released actually increased during the pandemic, making this year's Grammys an important part of celebrating creativity, music, and joy as well as to provide a sense of returning to normalcy. "We are honored that Michael Abbott is trusting us again for this year's show," comments Martin Seidl, CEO of Austrian Audio. "To have our mics specified by the Grammy's' chief engineer and sound designer speaks volumes about the quality and consistency of our products, and the recognition they are gaining throughout the industry."

Handmade in Vienna, the OC818 is a multi-pattern dual-output condenser microphone equipped with a world-first: optional wireless control, while its sibling -- the OC18, is a cardioid pattern precision microphone. Its unique design and outstanding sonics, combined with new wireless control technologies offering highly optimized workflows, have garnered the OC818 five-star reviews from all over the world, the company says.

"We are looking forward to this year's show," says Seidl. "One of our friends, Austrian producer Yakob Rabitsch, worked on Giveon's Album Take Time, which is nominated for Best R&B Album, so we're very excited about that in particular."
