Barbizon Capitol, Inc. and George Mason University Host Lighting Console Workshop George Mason University's Johnson Center became host for nine performing arts lighting console training sessions in late March. Nearly 100 people attended workshops during the day from 10:30 am through 6 pm that evening. GMU Events Production and Barbizon Capitol's Outreach Department helped coordinate the event exposing local and regional technicians to some of the latest consoles in the entertainment industry. "There are several major conventions around the country where this equipment is available for showcasing, but we find that many of our clients can't always make it to Vegas or Orlando. Our mandate at Barbizon is to help bring the consoles to our clients. This worked out beautifully and we can't wait to do it again and again," says Barbizon Capitol's sales manager. Five manufacturers were represented at the function and brought an array of consoles to display, teach, and have folks touch and ask questions: • ACT Lighting, representing MA • Avolites • Electronic Theatre Controls • High End Systems • Philips Strand Lighting "This was a tremendous opportunity for our student technicians to meet with industry professionals and get hands-on training. It's rare that you can take part in such a personalized experience with the kinds of high caliber consoles that were present at the workshops. We are extremely grateful for the efforts of Barbizon Capitol in developing this opportunity on our campus and we look forward to many more in the future!", says Sean Cox, Events Production manager.
