ITEAC 2014 Call for Papers and Content

The organizers of the International Theatre Engineering and Architecture Conference (ITEAC) are today issuing a formal call for papers to be considered for inclusion at next year's event. ITEAC 2014 will be the fourth edition of the conference to be held in the UK since its inception in 2002.

The three-day quadrennial conference, ITEAC 2014: The Future of Performance Spaces - The People, The Places, The Technologies, will be presented by the Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT), and will be held at the University of London's Senate House, from June 8 - 10, 2014.

The ABTT, alongside conference director Richard Brett and a newly formed editorial board, have set-out a theme that allows for an in-depth look at the rapid changes taking place within performance spaces driven by audience expectations, the availability of new technologies, and the demands made by new and more flexible programming.

The conference will also examine how performance spaces and the technologies within them will need to adapt in the near and longer-term future, to suit an ever changing audience and its expectations and demands of a live performance.

Commenting on the call for papers, the editorial board chair, David T. Staples of Theatre Project Consultants said, "The goal of ITEAC 2014 is to promote lively discourse about the design, planning, and technologies used in all types of performance spaces, from major opera houses, theatres, and concert halls through to schools and community centers. By so doing, we hope all who participate in the event, by whatever means, will learn of the most diverse range of recent techniques, solutions and designs, and also better understand what challenges will need to be met in the future."

"This conference will have a varied mix of session styles, including keynote speeches, presentations, panel discussions, quick-fire forums, and some micro-meetings on more specialist topics. Therefore, original papers that extend the state of the art or examine aspects of theatre architecture and systems that are not well explored are particularly encouraged."

"While some papers may feature buildings or technologies, the ITEAC 2014 editorial board is especially interested in learning what is innovative or forward thinking about that specific project or technology," Staples concluded.

Submission of approximately 300 words can be sent to: papers@iteac.co.uk, for the attention of the editorial board. Papers that are simply sales documents will not be accepted. Deadline: Friday, January 24, 2014.
