Pelican Supports World Blood Donor Day in the Face of Nationwide ShortageWhile the medical community battles courageously to save lives on the front lines of the coronavirus crisis, there is another life-threatening situation brewing that is not receiving the same magnitude of media attention. Our country is running dangerously low on the nation's blood supply. People are in need of blood for medical conditions and procedures, and Pelican Products wants to voice the need to replenish these reserves. In honor of World Blood Donor Day on June 14, Pelican is encouraging our employees and the community to take time to donate blood as a way to aid in the global pandemic. All Pelican employees will receive a small gift for donating blood during the month of June. Although many normal activities are being curtailed in an effort to end the virus spread, blood drives are considered an essential component of community health and preparedness plans as outlined by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). "Throughout the country, blood centers are reporting inventories falling to their lowest levels since the early stages of the pandemic," states the American Red Cross in a recent news release. "The availability of an adequate blood supply is a key aspect of ensuring optimal treatment for all patients and must be replenished to help prevent shortages during the coming weeks and months." During these uncertain times, the American Red Cross encourages healthy, eligible individuals to make an appointment to give blood or platelets to help keep a stable blood supply for trauma patients and those battling illness or injury. Please register at www.redcrossblood.org/give and visit the Red Cross or your local blood donation facility to donate. Pelican Products, Inc. is a portfolio company of Behrman Capital, a private equity investment firm based in New York and San Francisco.
