The Encounter Takes Best Design Award at Evening Standard AwardsThe 62nd Evening Standard Theatre Awards announced its winners at a ceremony in London's Old Vic, on November 13. The Encounter's Gareth Fry and Pete Malkin took home the award for Best Design -- specifically, sound design, as The Encounter whisks its audiences into the Amazon through the use of individual headsets. Additional winners include: Best Actor Ralph Fiennes, The Master Builder Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress Billie Piper, Yerma Best Musical Performance Glenn Close, Sunset Boulevard Best Play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Jack Thorne, J K Rowling, John Tiffany Best Musical Jesus Christ Superstar Milton Shulman Award for Best Director John Malkovich, Good Canary Best Revival No Man's Land, Wyndham's Charles Wintour Award for Most Promising Playwright Charlene James, Cuttin' It Emerging Talent Award in Partnership with Burberry Tyrone Huntley, Jesus Christ Superstar The Encounter is currently running on Broadway. Glenn will reprise her Sunset Boulevard performance in New York beginning in February. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is widely rumored to be coming to New York in the 2017-18 season.
