Douglas Stebbins, Theatre Consultant, Passes AwayDouglas Stebbins, a theatre consultant with Fisher Dachs Associates died on November 4, surrounded by his family at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York, after a long struggle with liver disease. A member of FDA's planning department for 19 years, Stebbins "made an enormous contribution to the field of theatre planning and design," says a company spokesperson. "His deep and immediately evident care for the nuances that differentiate a good theatre from an extraordinary theatre rubbed off not only on his FDA family, but also on the architects, acousticians, and clients he worked with throughout his career. His brilliant mind and diligent hand touched literally hundreds of theatres, opera houses, concert halls, and performing arts centers around the world. Each one of them carries a piece of his legacy, and each one is better for having met Douglas." Stebbins is survived by his mother, Shirley, and his five brothers, Russell, John David, Peter, Mark, and Michael. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a memorial scholarship fund started by Douglas's father. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student who worked on a farm in Stebbins' hometown throughout his or her school career. Stebbins and his brothers grew up on a family farm and vineyard, and spent their youth working there.
