Nitro Circus Live Gets into Gear with JBL VerTec Nitro Circus Live, which recently completed a tour of Australia, is based on the popular MTV extreme sports show; it features sport stunts from freestyle motor cross and skateboards to a wheelchair bound guy flinging himself off the 50ft high Gigantor Ramp. Global Action Sports, owner of the worldwide rights to create the Nitro Circus show, had already worked with George Gorga when he was sound designer for Crusty Demons, a group of daredevil freestyle motorcyclists. For this show, the company commissioned him to create a soundtrack as well as design and operate the audio system. "With Nitro Circus we were able to build the show from scratch, trying to retain elements from the television show whilst creating an exciting live show," said Gorga. "It's sort of scripted but can be very unpredictable." For the outdoor Nitro Circus Live shows Gorga opted for a JBL VerTec PA system ground-stacked and pointing up into the grandstands. There were ten ground stacks consisting of three JBL 4889 Vertec and two JPS single 18" subs each, then two ground stacks of four JBL 4888 VerTec and two JPS single 18" subs. The gear was supplied by Jands. "You can get great level and coverage out of these clusters especially outdoors," commented Gorga. "They're also pretty hardy outdoors. I use this set up every year for the NRL Grand Final at ANZ Stadium and it just works really well." "It's a good-sounding box and works well with this type of show where you have motor bikes and commentary on top of the soundtrack." Gorga will travel with Nitro Circus Live to its next gig at the MGM in Las Vegas, followed by a US tour.
