Steve Terry to Receive PLASA's Swan Award at the PLASA AGM in October

Steve Terry, ETC

PLASA has announced that Steve Terry will receive its highest honor, the Eva Swan Award, which recognizes exceptional long-term commitment to the association. The award will be presented at PLASA's Annual General Meeting on Thursday, October 22th, from 2:30 - 4:30pm at the Westgate Las Vegas Casino and Resort.

Terry, vice president of research and development at Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC), has made a significant impact on the association during his many years of service with the Technical Standards Program, the Entertainment Technician Certification Program, the ESTA board of directors, and the PLASA governing body.

Terry's unparalleled contributions to the lighting industry include leading the team responsible for the development of the original USITT standard for DMX512 and the formation of the original ESTA Technical Standards Program. He was a founding member of the Controls Protocols and Electrical Power Working Groups, and it is safe to say his fingerprints are on many of the documents that have come out of those two working groups. He has served as an active member of the Technical Standards Council and the Technical Standards Committee before it, leaving more than a few hand prints on the work of the TSC. Terry is a dedicated ambassador and liaison for PLASA and the entertainment lighting industry with other technical associations including Underwriters Laboratories and the National Fire Protection Association. In particular, his largely unsung work with the NFPA on behalf of the entertainment technology community has made life easier and safer for all of us.

As one of the Entertainment Electrician Subject Matter Experts, Terry participated in the recent revisions of the ETCP electrical exams and is currently serving as SME for a new certification exam.

A gifted author, Terry has contributed his technical expertise to many industry publications including Protocol, PLASA's technical journal, Lighting&Sound International, and Lighting Dimensions to name a few. His treatises have helped de-mystify many of our industry's greatest technical challenges.

As manufacturer representative to the then ESTA board of directors, Terry helped shape the direction of the association. He has served as member-at-large on the PLASA governing body from its beginning and most recently as chair of the governing body until his work load at ETC required he step down. In short, Terry has been, and continues to be, a vital participant in the association and the entertainment technology industry it represents.

The Swan Award is presented to a member who has put forth exceptional efforts in time, expertise, and personal resources, and has been instrumental in shaping the strategic direction and contributing to the realization of the association's mission. PLASA is pleased to honor Steve Terry with the Swan Award.
