Lights! Sound! Projections! USITT 2015 Offers 200+ Sessions

Knots class at previous USITT Stage Expo

The session schedule for USITT 2015 in Cincinnati is now available online, and it's jam-packed with the latest in live entertainment technology and techniques. See the schedule at the URLs below.

USITT 2015 offers more sessions on new technology and advanced learning than ever -- including the emerging discipline of projection design. Sessions on costume, scene, lighting, and sound design, architecture, management, and safety are all searchable online and via the USITT 365 mobile app, available at www.usitt.org/mobile.

Workshops featuring new tools for theatrical designers and technicians include "Using Technology to Optimize Your Costume Shop," "Teaching with Digital Swag," "Game Design & Theatre," "3-D for Costume Design & Technology," and "Video Game Tools & New Approaches to Theatrical Sound Designers."

Projection sessions include "Integrating Projections into Your Curriculum," "Media-Tecture: How Projection is Animating Architecture," "Digital Content Creation for Projection Design," and "Automation and Projection Working Harmoniously Together." And, projection pioneer Wendall Harrington, who teaches projection design at Yale School of Drama, will receive USITT's Distinguished Achievement Award in Education in a special session on her work.

Safety sessions range from "Painting During Pregnancy" to "Costume Design Done Safely" to "Fight Fair: Stage Combat Safety," to "I'm Young, New, and My Theatre Wants to Hurt Me." There are four sessions on flying, including "The Physics of Theatre: Dynamics of Performer Flying."

Sessions on the trending issues of sustainability and diversity in technical theatre including "Sustainability in Lighting Design & Technology," "Green Clothing Outside OZ: Environmentally Conscious Costuming," and "Reaching for the Heights of Diversity."

The event's Cincinnati location also inspired several sessions on Cincy's art offerings: "The Costumes and Costumers of the Cincinnati Ballet," "LuminoCity: Making Music Hall Come to Life," "The Show Boat: Floating Theatre Then and Now," and "The Legacy Project: Design Excellence and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park," among others.

Early-bird Full Conference rates of $320 for USITT members and $420 for non-members go up after December 4, so register now to save money.
