Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time Takes Olivier Awards for Lighting, Sound, and Set DesignThe 37th Olivier Awards were presented April 28 at London's Royal Opera House, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, The Audience, Top Hat, and Sweeney Todd took home the major awards. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, recently transferred from the National Theatre to the West End's Apollo Theatre, won seven of the eight awards it was nominated for, including Best New Play, Best Director for Marianne Elliott, and Best Actor for Luke Treadaway. Also recognized for their work in the play were Paule Constable for the White Light Award for Best Lighting Design, Ian Dickinson and Adrian Sutton for Best Sound Design award, and Bunny Christie and Finn Ross for the XL Video Award for Best Set Design. The nominees for the White Light Award for Best Lighting Design were Paul Anderson for The Master and Margarita; Lee Curran for Constellations; and Mark Henderson for Sweeney Todd. The Best Sound Design nominees were Paul Groothuis for Sweeney Todd; David McSeveney for Constellations; and Gareth Owen for Top Hat. The XL Video Award for Best Set Design nominees were Hildegard Bechtler for Top Hat; Miriam Buether and Wang Gongxin for Wild Swans; and Tim Hatley for The Bodyguard. The awards were hosted by Hugh Bonneville and Sheridan Smith. There were performances by Matthew Morrison, Idina Menzel, Petula Clark, Tim Minchin, and Michael Ball, as well as a Cats musical tribute to special award winner Gillian Lynne.
