Evoke Collaborative Launches Production Design Scholarship

Evoke Collaborative is launching a scholarship for students in various disciplines of lighting and video/projection design, with the goal of supporting underrepresented and diverse voices in the field of entertainment design.

The Evoke Collaborative scholarship is aimed at students seeking a career in lighting or projection design, and open to current graduate students, undergraduates, and high school seniors. Recipients will receive $5,000, which can be used to support their craft, obtain a degree, or use for union dues in entertainment industry labor organizations, such as IATSE and IBEW, starting with the 2022 recipient, Jasmine Moore.

Moore is a Virginia-based lighting technician and designer with interests in theatre, opera, dance, and corporate events. She most recently obtained her BA in Theatre Arts from The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts, with a concentration in lighting design and technology.

Moore is an alum of the Santa Fe Opera as an apprentice electrician where her work has been shown at the Apprentice Showcase (2021).

She is drawn to the creation of work that explores the emotional impact of lighting design and the conversation it incites within audiences. The subtlety of light itself as a "silent" or secondary character and stepping beyond conventional methods are challenges she is interested in experimenting with in designs.

Moore is the recipient of the Helen Hayes Award (2022) recognizing the student who has made outstanding contributions to the continuance and betterment of theatre and cinema over the past several years at the Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts.
