The Illuminating Engineering Society New York City Section Announces the 2016 Lumen AwardsThe Illuminating Engineering Society New York City Section (IESNYC) announces the 2016 Lumen Awards are open for submissions now through February 8, 2015. A signature program of the IESNYC, the Lumen Awards celebrate excellence in lighting design. Visit the Lumen Awards website below for more information. In addition, starting this year, the IESNYC Lumen Awards and the IES Illumination Awards are now two distinct awards programs, each with its own criteria including submittal requirements, entry fees, and portals. "By resuming ownership of the Lumen Awards as an autonomous IESNYC program, we hope to eliminate any confusion people may experience when participating in either awards program as well as simplify the administration and management of the Lumens," says Megan Carroll, chair of the Lumen committee and director of sales, east, for Xicato. Established in 1968 by the IESNYC, the Lumens are the oldest lighting design awards program in existence. As such, the Lumen Awards established its own unique rules for submission, operating guidelines, and marketing needs. Subsequently, the IES formed its own global awards program, initially known as the International Illumination Design Awards, (IIDA) and subsequently renamed the Illumination Awards. The Lumens were incorporated into this awards program, even as the Lumen Awards continued to expand rapidly and continuously evolved to meet the needs of the IESNYC members and others who submitted projects for consideration of a Lumen Award. "We expect that an independent Lumen Awards program will enable the IESNYC to better support its members and New York City's vibrant lighting community with increased visibility and marketing of the award-winning firms, reaffirming the value of excellence in lighting design," continues Carroll.
