Sandel Brothers Sound Steps It Up With dBTechnologies

Sandel Brothers Sound provides sound system rentals, installations, and live event production throughout the New York City and nearby New Jersey areas. In business since 1968, the company recently invested in an assortment of RCF and dBTechnologies sound reinforcement systems for their rental inventory.

"I had been looking at the new compact line array systems for a while when a subcontractor we were working with started talking about different systems," explains Joseph Sandel. "He spoke so highly of the dBTechnologies T4 system that we had to hear it for ourselves."

"The guys at On The Road Marketing were terrific -- we had a great demo and they let us try them out before we purchased them -- which really sealed the deal."

As a result Sandel Brothers invested in two DVA line array systems consisting of 24 T4 and 24 T12 modules along with six S30N and four S10 dpc subwoofers in the spring of 2012.

"We have taken the system out on at least 70 gigs since we purchased them I can say this -- they are easy to set up, I have never had a problem with power, and I know exactly what they do -- they have given me a confidence in powered speakers that I never thought I'd have."

dBTechnologies DVA series are fully powered units, scalable to setups of any size. The DVA systems feature neodymium speakers, high-performance digital amps, DSP, and premium-quality AD-DA transformers.

Shulem (Sol) Sandel founded the company in 1968 and prides himself on having a broad working knowledge of not only how sound systems work but also how loudspeakers are designed.

"Back in the day it was not uncommon to have to build custom loudspeakers depending on what the situation demanded," he explains. "As a result you end up knowing your way around the inside of a loudspeaker and can quickly spot subpar workmanship and components."

"When we took apart the first box -- which we always do for new gear -- I could see the quality right away. I knew that this was going to be a solid investment with an equally solid return."

Since their initial purchase in the Spring of 2012, Sandel Brothers Sound has continued to work closely with dBTechnologies as well as their sister company RCF.

The company, always looking to expand options for customers and additional flexibility with their inventory, recently took delivery of a new RCF line array system that consists of 12 TT55-A three-way line array modules and six TTS36-A subwoofers modules.

"The throw of the TT55 line array is very impressive," adds Sandel. "We used the system in a rehabbed Brooklyn Navy yard hanger where the depth of the room was 250' deep and the system didn't miss a step. It's really, really great gear."

The TTL55-A is a high power, three-way, active line array module engineered to deliver high output. The system is designed to be easily scalable from few modules for medium and small theatres to full size arrays for very large outdoor stadia and public spaces. The integration of the 3,500W four-channel digital amplification and the advanced digital processing set a new standard for distortion, noise, and thermal efficiency.

"We had another line array system that was a bit older," Sandel continues. "One of the TTS56-A subwoofers provides more output than four subs in the other system. You just can't beat that."

The clam-shell design of the TTS36-A features a vented 18" woofer design and 2x4.5" voice coil to minimize power compression. Two 2,000W digital amplifier modules power the sub.

Both the dBTechnologies and RCF systems are compact systems that can be configured for most situations and provide tremendous output and application flexibility for Sandel Brothers Sound.

"I can't say enough about these products," concludes Sandel. "We plan on working with RCF and dBTechnologies for a very long time."
