Hamilton Sweeps Olivier Award NominationsThe nominees for the 2018 Olivier Awards were announced March 6. The Broadway transfer of Hamilton and the National Theatre revival of the musical Follies, directed by Dominic Cooke, lead the design categories with three nominations each. For Hamilton, Howell Binkley is nominated for lighting design; Nevin Steinberg for sound design; and Paul Tazewell for costume design. For Follies, Vicki Mortimer is nominated for both costume and set design; and Paule Constable for lighting design (Constable is also nominated for Angels in America). Additional design nominees include: Best Lighting Design Jan Versweyveld, Network Best Sound Design Tom Gibbons, Hamlet Gareth Owen, Bat Out of Hell: +The Musical Eric Sleichim, Network Best Costume Design Hugh Durrant, Dick Whittington Roger Kirk, 42nd Street Best Set Design Bunny Christie, Ink Bob Crowley and 59 Productions, An American in Paris Rob Howell, The Ferryman Network is a National Theatre production, based on the 1976 film, directed by Ivo Van Hove and starring Bryan Cranston; a New York transfer has been rumored. Bat Out of Hell is a jukebox musical featuring songs by Jim Steinman, many of which have been recorded by Meat Loaf. Dick Whittington is an example of panto, the only-in-Britain genre of Christmas holiday entertainments. Ink is new drama, by James Graham, about Rupert Murdoch's invasion of Fleet Street in the 1960s. The Ferryman, by Jez Butterworth (Jerusalem), is an extremely well-received drama that transfers to Broadway in the fall.
