Powersoft Achieves 600 Million Watts Audio PowerPowersoft announces that it has reached the milestone of 600 million watts of audio power spread out around the world. This impressive figure has been 15 years in the making, in which time, Powersoft has supplied the pro audio industry with power amplifiers. "We recently had a count up and realized that we were getting close to the 600 million watts mark "explains Luca Giorgi, Powersoft's audio BU director. "Nearly 600 million, but not quite. We were still missing about 3 million watts and it became our goal to achieve this target before the end of August" "To help reach this landmark figure, we needed to come up with an effective promotion," added Francesco Fanicchi, Powersoft's marketing and communication manager, "so we created the '600millionreasons' campaign. Announcing the promotion through all of our communication channels, we invited visitors to register on a dedicated website and to join our cause." The 600millionreasons campaign has proven to be a success beyond expectations. Powersoft has reached the goal after just three weeks, selling several hundred of its powerful K10 and K20 amplifiers in a matter of days. While the idea of 600 million watts can conjures up images of pollution and of huge energy bills, in truth what needs to be evaluated is the other side of the coin: how much energy has been saved? If done well, the company says switching mode technology for power amplification is intrinsically efficient and Powersoft has always paid a great deal attention to maximizing these characteristics and designing products that minimize energy consumption. "If we compare our top level touring amplifiers with those of our competitors using more traditional technology," adds Giorgi, "the benefits quickly add up." The company calculates a practical example: Imagine two systems running 600 megawatts of audio power, at full power, for one hour. The first system is comprised of Powersoft PWM, switch mode amplifiers, the second with traditional linear amplifiers. With around 85% to 90% efficiency, the power required to run the Powersoft amps would produce somewhere in the region of 24 tons (or megagrams) of carbon dioxide emissions less than the linear amps. This means that on average K20 Powersoft amplifier can save about half kilograms per hour of CO2 (1/4 of full output power at 4ohm). The importance of the ecology-efficient technologies is becoming ever more relevant in the world that we live in. The company says integrating these technologies into products has always been part of the underlying philosophy at Powersoft -- both to save customers money and as a contribution to preserving the environment. Even though the original target has been reached, the 600millionreasons campaign will continue as planned until the end of August.
