Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas Closing After 16 Years After 16 years of producing the annual Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas, Jane Childs announces that the SILV 2021-Remote was the last full season of Stagecraft Institute and that SILV 2022 will only meet once at a quintessential Stagecraft Grill Chat. Childs' statement: "After a lot of thought and reflection, I have finally come to a decision about SILV 2022. As much as it looks like we may be on the verge of coming out of the pandemic, there remains so much uncertainty -- in the world as a whole and within the entertainment industry specifically. Which makes it impossible for me in good conscience to take the risk of holding in-person classes this summer. Nor do I think that we would be able to come anywhere close to offering the kind of experience that made SILV so special. That would not be fair to any of you or to what Stagecraft has accomplished over the past 15 summers. When Don and I started SILV, we said we'd been in development for over 40 years, in planning for three years, and finally opened our doors on June 1, 2006. Each season was its own unique story, and the last two summers were no exception. After 13 years of in-person programs, we did our best in the face of the pandemic to provide something useful, even though it couldn't be the kind of hands-on training that Stagecraft was built on. Now it's time to close our doors and trust that the 15 years of Stagecraft children will open the next round of doors." Childs was interviewed in the October 2007 issue of Lighting&Sound America magazine for its monthly People Worth Knowing column, http://www.lightingandsoundamerica.com/reprint/JaneChilds.pdf. Some of SILV's many contributors and volunteers can be found in an SILV tribute page in the LSA April issue on page 66, plasa.me/n31j5. .
