J. R. Clancy's VP of Marketing Announces Departure Tom Young, vice president of marketing at J.R. Clancy since 1998, has announced his plans to leave at the end of 2011 due to a health issue. Young arrived at Clancy in 1993 to take the position of international sales representative, bringing with himmore than 20 years' prior experience in engineering, sales and marketing of theatrical lighting at Skirpan Lighting, and Colortran Inc., and rigging systems at Hoffend, Inc. At J.R. Clancy, his capabilities drove the expansion of sales overseas, helping to make the company a significant player in major projects in Europe, the Middle East, and the Pacific Rim. As Clancy's vice-president of marketing, Young built the company's reputation as the leading manufacturer of theatre rigging systems in the US. When the company's focus expanded to include off-the-shelf automated rigging products as well as traditional counterweights, Young developed the messaging and marketing plan that positioned J.R. Clancy as a leader in technological innovation. "Tom's value to the company cannot be overstated," said Mike Murphy, J.R. Clancy's president. "His ability to combine his engineering expertise with his marketing skills have made him an important contributor to our success. "Tom's passion for rigging safety championed our initiative to be the leader in backstage safety, working to get the right materials and messages about safe rigging operation out to every user, from high schools to the most sophisticated opera houses." "Working at Clancy with Bob Theis and Mike Murphy has been great," said Young. "They are two dynamic leaders who always take the high road, with the absolute devotion to making our partners successful. It's been a tremendous time at J.R. Clancy, and I'm grateful to have been a part of it." Beyond his position at Clancy, Young has served on the board of directors of the USITT and as a director of ESTA. He held the position of vice-president of the ESTA board for two terms. Young and his wife, Sheila, are planning a move to the Pittsburgh area.
