Clay Paky Mythos Units and GrandMA2s at the Lake Festival

This year was the sixth Lake Festival, the biggest EDM event in Austria. More than one hundred artists performed on five different stages, including Avicii, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki, Alesso, and Tiësto. Thirty six Clay Paky Sharpys, 34 Clay Paky Mythos units, 1 grandMA2 full-size e 1 grandMA2 light were used (along with other equipment) at the festival, which took place at Unterpremstätten on Schwarzl Lake.

The lighting team consisted of the lighting designer Daniel Pusnik, and Manfred Nikitser, who dealt with the technical management and MA programming, supported by Otto Schildknecht. Kenny Lippert was the lighting crew chief.

Nikitser had this to say: "For the stages, we first of all -- of course -- followed the headliners' instructions and requests. They were very cooperative and agreed to the idea of having a single lighting design for all. However every act also required some lights where no compromises were possible. This meant that, if certain special effects and movements were designed with Sharpys in mind, then we had to use Sharpy moving heads. As ambient lighting was concerned, we could do what we liked. The only limitation the organizers set was to include the costly scenic structure in the stage design and enhance the evocative scenery. This led us straight away to think of the Clay Pay Mythos. It is very unlikely that another moving light could be as multifunctional and -- at the same time -- as powerful, despite its low consumption and compact dimensions."

"Since the festival lasted four days and the line-up involved a different main act every day, there were a lot of people taking part," Nikitser says. "We had to find a solution that suited everybody, without having to do too many alterations overnight. The headliners started programming their shows as soon as the previous day's show ended. All the crew members therefore had to work in two shifts to make the necessary changes promptly. Whereas, we did not need to make changes to the ambient lighting. The main element was the big stage, with its huge wings, where there was a permanent scenic structure consisting of an encompassing wall with five towers on each side. The towers were equipped with LED walls and Mythos units so that they stood out."

Redline Enterprise GmbH provided the lighting equipment.
