Lift Turn Move at Stockholm Waterfront Congress Center

The new Stockholm Water Front Convention Centre is situated in the heart of the Swedish capital The building stands out for its multi-functional capabilities; it can easily be transformed from a 3,000-person arena into a series of smaller sections which allow hosting of intimate meetings for only 12 people. This versatility is made possible by the multifunctional hoist lifting system supplied by Germany-based COW Lifting Technology, a subsidiary of UK-based Lift Turn Move Ltd.

Very high safety requirements were required because loads would be moving above people, so the decision was made to opt for the stringent German Safety Standard, BGV C1. COW has been offering advanced specification motion control systems for the last five years. Developed in-house, the company COW specializes in these applications where load monitoring, variable speed and accurate programming are essential. These BGV C1 C-Force systems are from the same product line of hoists as the LoadGuard hoist as supplied by LTM, Cow's parent company, for projects at the Liverpool Echo Arena, the O2 Arena in Berlin, and the ISS Dome in Dusseldorf amongst many others.

The Stockholm system required a total of 39 BGV C1 hoists with lifting capacities from 1,102 - 2,204lb along with a 48-channel "C Force control PC" show control system. The system incorporates extra safety features including load sensing, double brakes and four position limit switches and a 10:1 safety factor, this allows extensive hoist movement with precise positioning. The computer display also shows individual hoist positions, groups positions and exact loads on each hoist in the system. COW provided the Force Controlshow control technology and cables including commissioning on site to offer a complete solution to the Stockholm Waterfront Convention Centre.
