IALD Announces 2015 Inductees to IALD College of Fellows

Steven Rosen, FIALD, receives his Fellows plaque from IALD president Barbara Horton, FIALD, at IALD Enlighten Americas 2015 in Baltimore.

The IALD welcomes two new members to the IALD College of Fellows. The IALD Fellow designation is awarded to members of the IALD for valuable contribution to the art and science of lighting design, and for their continued service to the IALD. Fellows are professional members with a minimum numbers of ten years of experience.

The following Fellows were formally inducted at the IALD Enlighten Americas 2015 conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

Glenn Heinmiller is a principal at the architectural lighting design firm Lam Partners. Utilizing his expertise in producing high-quality electric and daylighting solutions with minimized energy use and negative environmental impact, he has designed daylight and electric lighting systems for a diverse range of commercial, institutional, and civic projects.

As chairman of the IALD Energy and Sustainability Committee, Heinmiller guides the IALD's participation in sustainability initiatives, and helps coordinate the review of and contribution to standards, regulations, and rating systems development. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and serves as a USGBC Subject Matter Expert.

Heinmiller is NCQLP Lighting Certified, a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers, and a member of the International Dark Sky Association. He is the former instructor of the lighting design course at the Boston Architectural College, and lectures and writes on the subjects of light pollution control, lighting codes, and lighting energy efficiency.

For his design work, Heinmiller has received an IALD Award of Excellence, two Architectural Lighting Magazine Outstanding Achievement Awards, and the GE Edison Award.

It was Steven Rosen's keen interest in applying theatrical lighting techniques to traditionally non-theatrical environments that led to his 1992 founding of his lighting design studio, Available Light. The originality and grand scale of Rosen's designs are evident in such one-of-a-kind award-winning projects as: The Neural Climber at The Franklin Institute, Trip Advisor's new World Headquarters, the National Museum of the Marine Corps, and a lighting renovation of the National Archives Rotunda-home to the United States Constitution.

Honors include the LDI Lighting Designer of the Year Award, and the first ever IALD Radiance Award. Rosen has brought home awards from the IALD, the Themed Entertainment Association, the IES, and Architectural Lighting Magazine.

In hundreds of projects across the globe, Rosen's passion for light and design can be found in a variety of spaces -- office interiors, grandly themed retail environments, and wonderful exhibition and museum displays -- ranging from battling dinosaurs to warring aliens, and beyond.

Rosen believes his biggest success has been in surrounding himself by fabulous people -- both at work and at home with his family. He holds an MFA in Stage Design from New York University, and, as president of the IALD Education Trust, is committed to assuring the development of the next generation of lighting designers.
