RIVAGE PM Series Firmware Version 2.5 Provides Enhanced Support for Theatre Applications The RIVAGE PM digital mixing system has been updated regularly since its initial release and now takes another step forward with firmware update V2.5. The announcement was made today by Yamaha Corporation Japan. The version 2.5 update adds a new theatre mode that offers significant advantages for plays, musicals, and other theatrical productions. The theatre mode facilitates scene and costume changes with four banks that can be used to store different EQ and dynamics settings for individual performers. In theatre mode, rather than storing EQ and dynamics settings in the console's "scenes," only the bank number is stored so that any adjustments made will apply to all scenes that use the same bank. This can be particularly useful when multiple actors are cast in the same role or when a substitute must be used, allowing fast, flexible mix changes to accommodate different casts, for example. The V2.5 update also supports the Audinate Dante Domain Manager, providing even greater sound system security and scalability when a RIVAGE PM system is used at the core of a Dante audio network. According to Yoshi Tsugawa, general manager of the Yamaha professional audio division, "In addition to elaborate scene changes, today's long-running theatrical productions often depend on double casting and other practices that can be complex to manage. The new theatre mode included in firmware update V2.5 provides comprehensive support for such productions, allowing the sound to be efficiently optimized for each performer's voice so that consistent overall audio quality can be maintained from performance to performance, day-to-day. The Dante Domain Manager is also newly supported, offering enhanced system security, scalability, and manageability." RIVAGE V2.5 is available via download at the URL below.
