New York City Center Renovation Led by Duncan Hazard/ Ennead Architecture Honored with AwardsAwards for excellence in architecture and historic preservation honor the recent renovation of New York City Center led by Duncan Hazard of Ennead Architects. The New York Landmarks Conservancy presented City Center with a 2012 Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award on Wednesday at the New-York Historical Society. The annual Moses Awards celebrate the success of historic preservation and its role in the economic, social and cultural vitality of New York City. At its annual conference in Long Beach, California last month, the United States Institute for Theater Technology presented City Center with a 2012 Architecture Award of Merit. In its nineteenth year, USITT's Architecture Awards honor excellence in the design of theater projects. City Center has also just received a 2012 SARANY Award of Merit. Established by the Society of American Registered Architects, the SARA Awards recognize design excellence and encourages client participation in achieving the best in the built environment. The award will be presented at SARANY's annual banquet on June 26. The complete renovation of City Center has preserved the essential character of the landmark building and reinvigorated the identity of one of the City's most venerable performing arts venues. The awards acknowledge the success of the renovation design, whose goal was to create a vibrant new venue with all of the conveniences and amenities that contemporary patrons expect, but one that is still "City Center," beloved by generations of New York City theatergoers. www.ennead Architecture
