Lucille Lortel Winners AnnouncedThe winners of the Lucille Lortel Awards were announced last night, May 5, in a ceremony at New York University's Skirball Center. The awards honor achievement in the Off-Broadway theatre scene. In the design categories, Kate Noll was cited for the scenic design of the science fiction-inflected family drama Wet Brain, produced by Playwrights Horizons. Lux Haac won in the costume design category for Manhatta, a drama about Native Americans in the 17th century and today, produced by the Public Theater. Lighting designer Amith Chandrashaker was cited for The Comeuppance, about a group of fortysomething friends gathering for a class reunion, produced by Signature Theatre Company. In the sound design category, Ryan Rumery won for Stereophonic, a 1970s-era drama set in a recording studio, produced by Playwrights Horizons. Nicholas Hussong won for the projection design of Wet Brain. Leading the awards in terms of wins were the music-theatre piece (pray) with three awards, and the musical Buena Vista Social Club, The Comeuppance, Stereophonic, and Wet Brain, with two apiece.
