Powersoft Inspires Loudspeaker Design with M-Force Technology

Powersoft M-Force

Powersoft will launch the ultimate paradigm shift in low frequency applications at InfoComm 2013: M-Force. InfoComm runs June 12-14 in Orlando, Florida. After a development cycle spanning more than four years, M-Force was publicly unveiled at the recent Prolight + Sound show in Frankfurt, generating high levels of interest and excitement from the entire professional audio industry.

Designed specifically for loudspeaker manufacturers and powered by Powersoft's proprietary switch mode amplification, M-Force is an innovative linear motor characterized by a moving magnet and genuine push-pull behavior. M-Force integrates perfectly with other technologies developed by Powersoft such as Differential Pressure Control (DPC) already used in subwoofers using IPAL technology.

"The approach to converting a signal from electrical to acoustic has not been fundamentally changed since the beginning of acoustic design" - comments Powersoft's R&D director Claudio Lastrucci. "With M-Force we have created an alternative method of acoustic transduction, by combining the latest technologies in the domains of power amplification, magnetic materials, and advanced real-time digital signal processing. The result is a device that considerably improves the electrical to acoustic conversion efficiency at a system level, allowing the true exploitation of the native qualities of switch mode amplification. This new approach brings many advantages -- most significantly providing a flexibility and sound quality experience that will set a new standard in low frequency speaker design."

M-Force is currently being tested in the field in collaboration with a select group of loudspeaker manufactures and live sound engineers. The company says the goal is to offer a "system oriented" package for selected loudspeaker manufacturers to produce unsurpassed low frequency performance: a true and complete paradigm shift from the traditional moving coil and cone.

With respect to conventional transducers, M-Force requires less power from the amplifier to produce higher sound pressure levels (SPL) with extremely low levels of distortion. Unlike conventional loudspeakers, M-Force is a genuine push-pull engine where the magnetic field interacts in a linear fashion to provide a controlled force to the moving elements. The transducer is completely free of moving electrical conductors, which in turn maximizes the efficiency and reliability of the whole system. The high motor strength, the company says is typically one order of magnitude above conventional technologies, yields to a natural, controlled sound and negligible power compression at the highest sound levels. The displacement capabilities allow an increase in SPL in relation to the size ratio of the cabinet design. By merging the unique parameters of the transducer and the amplifier output stage, according to the company, the system provides unsurpassed sonic performance and efficiency.

M-Force has been designed with the environment in mind. High power efficiency, extended lifespan, and with low Neodymium content, M-Force fits into Powersoft's 'Green Audio Power' philosophy.

M-Force is a worldwide patented technology.
