Long Reach Long Riders Announce Early Fundraising for 2017 RideBy popular demand, the Long Reach Long Riders (LRLR) have opened the fundraising season for the 2017 charity ride. The 14th annual ride, "The Avocado Adventure: A Guided Guacamole Tour," starts on June 16, 2017 in Southern California. Drew Wending, ride marshal noted, "We've had many requests to begin fundraising now, rather than wait till spring, and so we have." The annual charity ride, which began in 2004, benefits two organizations: The Behind the Scenes charity and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. To date, the LRLR have raised over $550,000. All LRLR riders and chase car drivers are required to raise at least $1,000 to join the ride and they are encouraged to raise more than the minimum. Everyone pays all of their own expenses so all of the money donated goes directly to the charity. The ride averages 25 - 30 bikes a year along with two sponsored chase cars. The route covers roughly 2,000 miles in seven to eight days. Loren Schreiber, last year's ride marshal commented, "We have a terrific core group of people who ride every year as well as those who join when we're in their part of the country. It's great fun and both charities are certainly worthy of our support. Last year we raised over $50,000!"
