William Penn Mott Jr. Visitor Center is Now OpenAn estimated five million people visit the Presidio of San Francisco annually and now there is a new starting point for their adventures -- the William Penn Mott Jr. Visitor Center. Originally an historic military guardhouse and prison, the transformed Visitor Center houses educational exhibits about the 1,491-acre US National Park where it resides. Auerbach Glasow provided architectural lighting design services for the project as part of a team lead by architects Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. The most current LED lighting technology and energy efficiency are key components of the lighting design. The building's historic features were incorporated into the two-room design which adheres to LEED Gold specifications. Exhibits, designed by Macchiatto, include a large scale model of the park and a "Voices of the Presidio" display. The William Penn Mott Jr. Visitor Center is supported through a partnership between the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the Presidio Trust, and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.
