Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas Launches 2011 Summer Courses Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas is just weeks away from kicking off its fifth season of intensive courses in live entertainment technology. Beginning on June 6 and concluding on July 29, the institute offers eight weeks of specialized training in a total of 17 topics. This season also offers the innovation of weekend classes. Designed to address new areas of special interest, these two-day classes pack a lot of training into a weekend. Instrumentation concentrates on conventional theatrical lighting instrumentation. Presentation and Portfolio covers techniques designed to assist individuals in preparing design and tech presentations for exhibitions. The next class, Foam Carving, is designed for props artisans, scenic artists, designers, and technicians. The field of Management is changing almost as fast as the technology, which is why SILV is offering a weekend class in that as well. Up next will be Gobo and Color Magic, where participants will experiment with the use of color as a designer's tool and as a technical artist. Gobo design and integration will be included and each participant will design a custom gobo and have it manufactured. Wrapping the up weekends is Design Charette, in which students will work on an intensive design project that culminates in a presentation and showcase. The project will focus on set, costume, light, effects, props, and sound design, and will be led by award winning designers. A list of the faculty is also available online, through the second URL listed below. To make their weekends as affordable as possible, through April 15, SILV is offering to include the hotel for the weekend (two nights) for an extra $5.00.
