Philips Vari-Lite Releases Software Update for Individual Control of the Seven LED EnginesPhilips Vari-Lite announced the release of new software for the popular VLX Wash luminaire which provides individual cell control to the powerful RGBW LED light engines inside. Sparked by the success seen in the VLX3 Wash, the software update is applicable for all existing VLX fixtures and now gives lighting designers the creative freedom to create multicolored effects with unique output capabilities that can be easily programmed from any lighting controller. "When we released the VLX3 Wash, designers loved the individual LED cell control feature and immediately began asking if this would be available in the VLX Wash, and today it is," says Brad Schiller, Philips Vari-Lite product marketing manager. "The software gives users the option to operate all seven light engines as one, or allows them to operate completely independent of each other to create many different dynamic chases and looks on the front of the fixture and in aerial beams." The individual control is achieved through a second DMX mode where users can toggle between combined or individual control. The new mode only increases the DMX channel count to 72 DMX channels, but users may also still operate the light in the standard mode using 23 DMX channels. Schiller continues, "This is a very exciting development in the life of the VLX Wash luminaire. The fixture has already been widely accepted by lighting designers worldwide as an exceptional wash luminaire for just about any lighting application, and with the enhanced capabilities of the individual cell control, a whole new level of creativity is now possible." The internal beam homogenization system creates smooth color mixing that is natural and free of any "color shadowing" effects. With stunning colors, powerful intensity, a multi-year source life, low energy consumption and now individual cell control, the VLX Wash luminaire is breaking new ground in LED lighting technology.
