Ocean Way Audio Introduces New HR5 Monitor at The 2020 NAMM ShowDesigned to deliver performance greater than any speaker of its size, Ocean Way Audio's new HR5 reference monitor system makes its public debut at The 2020 NAMM Show with the company's most affordable speaker. One of the most powerful qualities of the HR5 is the ability to provide a perfect 100 degrees of horizontal dispersion. No matter where the listener stands, the speaker sounds the same, resulting in the biggest sweet spot of any speaker system available today. If the engineer is sitting in the perfect position in front of the speakers, everyone in the room will hear the same balance and tonal qualities. Ocean Way's exclusive technology utilizes patented twin constant directivity HF and low-band horns with exceptional driving elements. This gives the listener superb imaging and the ability to position and set the level of every instrument and vocal in a mix with complete confidence, knowing that it will translate no matter where the mix is played. The HF and low-band horns are milled out of solid blocks of wood and are totally non-resonant, resulting in greater efficiency in their respective bands as compared to conventional direct radiators. This extra efficiency means the respective bands don't have to work as hard, even at the loudest levels, and require half of the power of conventional direct radiating components. This translates into very low distortion even at high volume levels. The high frequency driving element utilizes a 1" silk dome with aluminum voice coil in a magnetic structure, so, unlike conventional horn drivers, it has no phasing plug and hence significantly lower distortion. With 1W in at 1K the HF section produces 104dB at one meter. The HF section is driven by a separate 90A amp. Another important aspect to the HR5's exceptional performance is the ability of each of its HF and LF components to all produce excellent performance well above and below their respective crossover points. This and the fact that the HF and LF band components are in exact physical time alignment and have horns with identical flare rates provides a virtually perfect transition between all ranges. Even if the listener is 1' from the HR5, the transition between the components is inaudible, resulting in one unified congruent sound. Ocean Way Audio's HR5 offers the largest sweet spot of any speaker system available today, the company says, along with incredibly precise imaging, wide frequency range, and ample power with very low distortion and no traces of harshness or coloration. Also available soon is a small companion Ocean Way Audio subwoofer, transforming the HR5s into a three-way monitor system and extending the bass response to 25Hz.
