LED Source Hosts LEDko Challenge How badly do you need to update your profile? That's what international LED lighting supplier LED Source is asking all staging, studio, installation, and corporate theatre professionals throughout North America. In celebration of the launch of the new Reflection LEDko series by Italy-based Coemar, LED Source will award one winner with a Reflection LEDko LED lighting package worth over $20,000. "It is amazing to see how many lighting systems are in need of a lighting makeover," says Dean Ernst, director of marketing for LED Source. "Many are out of date and consume enormous amounts of energy. With the advancements in LED lighting technology over the years and the introduction of Reflection LEDko, traditional profiles can now be replaced. This LED fixture not only lowers maintenance and energy costs, it eliminates the need for dimmers and scrollers. We are offering this contest as a way to help out those most in need of a lighting upgrade and to create awareness about the new Reflection LEDko series." Participants are asked to submit a video of their lighting system that is in dire need of help. It should be fun and creative, and show their current lighting problems and why they should win. All entries must be posted on the Reflection LEDko Facebook Contest page at by December 2. A panel of experts made up of both LED Source and Coemar senior management will pick five finalists. Fans of the Reflection LEDko Facebook page will then vote for a grand prize winner that will be announced on December 15. The entry with the most votes will win a package of eight Reflection LEDko fixtures with either hard or soft edge optics included. Reflection LEDko is a new LED fixture and, the company says, the first LED profile delivering both soft profile and hard-edge profile using mix and match optics. With this new technology, Coemar says it has created the first LED profile capable of projecting soft-edged profile light with no reduction in light intensity due to additional filters. It is also billed as being the first LED profile that can be used in the same way as traditional profiles and can obtain any color tone, shade, and white light. Applying the Reflection LED technology as a retrofit makes it possible to reduce energy consumption from 500-650W to 150W, the company says. Because LEDs do not emit heat, Reflection LEDko is capable of utilizing images or gobos created with any standard printer and a transparency sheet. All LEDko series fixtures feature electronic 16-bit dimming, flicker-free operation with DMX controllable LED frequency from 500 to 5000 Hz and a bi-directional DMX512. "This contest is open to lighting companies, end users, theaters, and pretty much anyone who uses advanced lighting packages and needs a major update," Ernst says. To see the Reflection LEDko in person and learn more about the contest, interested parties can visit LED Source in Booth #1660 at LDI, October 28-30, Orlando, Florida. The LEDko Challenge closes at 11:59pm EDT on December 2, at which time no further submissions will be accepted. The top five video submissions most in need of a lighting upgrade will be announced on December 8 at 9am EDT. The final five contestants' videos will be posted on the Facebook Reflection LEDko page for fans to vote on the winner in a one-week long poll. The winner will be announced on December 15 at 9am EDT.
