Bandit Lights Up Beautiful Blur with LANY American pop band LANY recently wrapped up the North American leg of its 2024 tour, A Beautiful Blur, named after their fifth album released in 2023. Bandit Lites provided the lighting for duo Paul Klein and Jake Goss who named their act in honor of Los Angeles and New York. Lighting designer Ben Gilbert sought to streamline the design with LED fixtures, offering both a cohesive design and easier time programming. He drew inspiration from the cylindrical halo video element and curved the lighting trusses around it. Bandit Lites supplied Ayrton Khamsin S, Chauvet Professional Strike Array 4, Chauvet Color Strike M, Chauvet COLORado PXL Bar 16 and Bar 8, Vari-Lite 3600, and ROBE Pointes as well as two MA Lighting grandMA 3 Full consoles and a Follow Me System. "The Khamsin is the workhorse of this design and is a fantastic LED fixture," said Gilbert. "With its faster movement and great features, it covers all bases of what you want from a profile fixture. The Strike M and PXL Bars from Chauvet are great lights for their class; both very bright and did exactly what we needed them to do, with their great color for scenic lighting and responsive effects lighting." To maintain the curve design while optimizing the system for touring, Bandit offered the idea of pre-rig gates, allowing the tour to "curve" the pre-rig to follow the LED. Additionally, the amount of floor fixtures would have consumed valuable truck space if not for the custom carts. "Bandit's FlexRax really cut down on footprint when loading the truck," said Gilbert. "I enjoy working with Ben and was stoked when this opportunity for A Beautiful Blur tour came about," said Bandit Lites client representative Mike Stanley. "The entire LANY team is a pleasure to work with. I wish them luck on the rest of the global tour and am looking forward to working with them again on future North American ventures." "The Bandit team excelled in their delivery of this show," finished Gilbert. "Lead by Scott Sepe as crew chief, Lucas Gamez as tech and Follow Me programmer along with Sam Morgan and Tala Bell, they performed their duties to the highest level, producing a beautiful and neat show every time. They melded with myself, the designer and director, and Matt Doherty on systems seamlessly to create a well-rounded team. As always Mike Stanley was always there when we needed him and did an amazing job getting this rather last-minute job out the door in a timely manner and on budget."
