Spectrum Productions Offers Ultra-Wide 100' Projection Screens

Spectrum Productions' ultra-wide 100' projection screens

Spectrum Productions now offers a new projection system with a standard screen measuring 100' by 15' for meetings and events. "The system is scalable from 12' by 36' to 160' by 18', with many sizes in between", states company president Preston MacIntyre. Meeting planners and producers enjoy a mammoth pallet on which to visualize the message of the event. Screens this size are typically used either as digital scenery, or as more traditional screens with far from usual content. The extra-wide format allows for multiple picture in picture windows for live camera feeds and standard PowerPoint, but the company says it is captivating with custom content specially designed for the ultra-wide format.

"Two years ago one of my clients came to us with a challenge. It was a ballroom that looked like an exhibit hall with columns in the middle of the room. They had an audience of over 1,000 attendees and we created a 100' wide screen for their event. This seamless image allowed us to have a cool scenic element to the production for their opening video and background. At the same time we were able to breakup the images on screen during show so that the entire audience could see the production around the columns from anywhere in the room," notes Spectrum Productions COO, Brian Hogger.

The Spectrum Productions system is based on three key components from manufacturer partners Barco, Christie Digital, and AV Stumpfl. All content is selected, routed, and processed with the Christie Spyder x20. The video processor provides 16 inputs and eight outputs with sophisticated processing to accommodate blending the image going to the projectors. The projectors are Barco HDX series projectors. In the case of the 100' version, four Barco HDX W18s are used as the primary projection. "Our 100' wide screen has become a huge addition to our inventory for our clients. I have been able to take what most clients consider an amazing show and turned it into a huge 'Wow' factor. With the technology of the Spyder X20 and Granite Pix 5000 the possibilities are endless for this backdrop. My clients have been very pleased with the options they have for their content. We can produce large seamless moving backgrounds, breakup the screen to show different images, and have a massive screen for opening and closing videos," added Hogger.

"We have been extremely pleased with the Vario system; in particular, the speed of setup and the fit and finish. Our earlier wide screens required heavy truss and bungee cords. There was always extra work to mask off the truss to say nothing about the truck space," noted MacIntyre.

The use of ultra-wide screen video is often a substitute for scenic. Rather than fabricate scenic structures, the meeting planner or producer can use any video or imagery to set the mood for the event. "Our wide screen is one of our most popular rental items. It has already been the focal point for numerous meetings and events across the country," concluded MacIntyre.
