Kate Furst Promoted to Principal at Available LightThe design firm Available Light has promoted Kate Furst to principal. "Bringing with her an already impressive resume, Kate joined our team three years ago. While we hadn't planned on expanding to Los Angeles, Kate's exceptional skills as a lighting designer, her seasoned professionalism, and her inspiring leadership qualities made our decision to expand a fait accompli," says Steven Rosen, CEO and founder. "In just three short years, the studio has grown from one person to a team of six wonderful designers. We've also expanded into themed entertainment, further diversifying our already broad portfolio of lighting disciplines. Working with and learning from Kate has been a pleasure, her invaluable contributions have benefited both our team and our clients." Furst holds a BS in business administration and theatre from Mary Washington College, and an MFA in lighting design from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. An active member of both the IES and IALD, she serves on the IES-LA board of managers; she is chair of the Russell Cole Memorial Student Lighting Design Competition and the lighting lead for the SoCal NOMA Summer Camp program. Her architectural project experience includes retail, themed entertainment, museums, hospitality, offices, residential, landscape architecture, and multi-media projects. Her designs have garnered multiple awards from the Illuminating Engineering Society and the Themed Entertainment Association. "I'm truly honored to take on the role of managing principal lighting designer for our Los Angeles studio," Furst says. "I am grateful for the amazing team whose talent and creativity inspire me every day, and I am eager to help shape a bright future together. I am so excited by what lies ahead!"
