Tacos and Technology Headline WorldStage Midsummer BashTacos and Technology were on tap when WorldStage hosted a summer get-together at the Metropolitan Pavilion for invited guests. The festive evening highlighted WorldStage's diverse technology inventory, including LED displays, audio systems, and lighting fixtures. In addition, the company demonstrated some R&D projects currently in development. WorldStage created an "art gallery" environment to show off the state-of-the-art technology, with the different elements configured to educate as well as entertain the attendees. One feature compared acceptable viewing and camera distances for LED video displays, comparing 6mm to 3.9mm Unilumin tiles to a super-high resolution 1.2mm Leyard display. The ROE Hybrid 18 display, which utilizes multi-resolution LEDs, was also demonstrated. On the audio side of things, a self-guided audio demo allowed guests to listen to different loudspeakers and evaluate their differences and commonalities. The main shootout included Yamaha DSR 112, Meyer Sound UPJ, and d&b audiotechnik Y7p speakers. A subwoofer shootout featured thunderous Meyer Sound 650p and d&b B2 cabinets. Demonstrating innovative techniques for production communications, a Riedel/Unity demo showed the connection between cell phones and the Riedel digital intercom system, which permits communications between the cell phone user and intercom network. Representing the wide inventory of WorldStage Lighting, staff was on hand to provide insight into Clay Paky A.leda B-EYE K20, Mythos, and new Scenius spot luminaires; the Chauvet Professional Nexus NXT-1 effects light and 4x4 LED panels; the Rogue R1 FX-B; the Colorado One Solo LED PAR wash; and the Astera AX7 wireless spot. Tacos and Technology also gave guests a peek behind the curtain at some new and exciting products that WorldStage is evaluating. They included an LED floor with improved resolution, contrast, viewing angles and reflectivity than current products on the market and an experimental system that used polarized light to reveal different aspects of a projected image. "We've been holding these combination technology and social events for our clients on the east and west coasts for a number of years and this one, I think, was especially helpful in exposing and explaining the latest technologies to our client base," says WorldStage president Josh Weisberg. "It was also wonderful to spend time with our clients, relaxing with them in a non-project environment -- a great reminder that we are fortunate to work with some of the best folks in the business."
