New Counterweight Rigging Technology from ETC

Prodigy Balance rigging features a self-contained weight stack located at the stage level. This eliminates the need to load and unload the arbor like with traditional counterweight systems, the company says.

ETC's Prodigy Balance rigging is a new approach to traditional counterweight systems, designed to bring safety and accessibility to what had been a dangerous part of working backstage.

Prodigy Balance rigging features a self-contained weight stack located at the stage level. This eliminates the need to load and unload the arbor like with traditional counterweight systems. Line sets are now balanced using a series of pins that engage and disengage weight to match what is on the pipe. There is no longer a need to climb narrow staircases or lean over railings multiple stories in the air to load and unload heavy bricks, the company says.

Having an out-of-weight system was not uncommon with traditional counterweight rigging. With Balance, a built-in overspeed sensor automatically engages the rope lock if the line starts to move faster than the preset speed, making it virtually impossible to have an out-of-weight situation, the company says. This drastically reduces the possibility and negative impact of a runaway arbor.

With an ETC QuickTouch Preset or Foundation controller, users are able to lock line sets to prevent unauthorized use, monitor line set trim and movement, and change the color and intensity of the integrated work lights. Balance has a maximum travel of 50' and a lifting capacity of 1,200lb.
