Magik Theatre Presents Elephant & Piggie's "We Are in a Play!" with MEGA-LITE

Elephant & Piggie's "We Are in a Play" at Magik Theatre

San Antonio, Texas-based Magik Theatre has opened a new season with the musical Elephant & Piggie's "We Are in a Play." On this adventure, an elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie discover the true meaning of being an unconditional friend, featuring songs with catchy tunes, lively dances and plenty of laughs.

To bring this colorful musical to life, lighting designer Katherine Stepanek chose MEGA-LITE products to enhance the performance's visuals such as ten MW1s, one Framebot 600, four MS1s,14 N-E Pixstrip H216s, four Drama LED W50s, two Drama Profile VW2s, one Nova-Lite UV200, one H6 hazer, one Mega Node, two Toad Hybrid LED 400s, and six ZIP Strip C40s.

The MW1s served as wash lights, illuminating the actor's performances. The Framebot 600 added its touch, both as wash and effect light, highlighting special moments in the play. The MS1s brought dancing lights that mirrored the lively music and even interacted with the audience during key moments. Meanwhile, the N-E Pixstrip H216s added energy, especially for the more upbeat songs.

For dramatic cabaret-like moments, the Drama LED W50s and Drama Profile VW2s worked together with the H6 Hazer to focus on individual performers. The Nova-Lite UV200 revealed hidden paintings and turned a pool party into a rave for children, illuminating the blacklight bubbles in a playful, glowing atmosphere. The Toad Hybrid LED 400s provided architectural spotlights, running along the scenery and ceiling to draw the audience in. Lastly, the Zip Strip C40s created a "ceiling" of light and haze, creating an immersive environment with dancing effects over the audience's heads.

From the interactive audience moments to the energetic songs, MEGA-LITE's gear helped turn this play into an unforgettable experience. Stepanek, along with the lighting supervisor Thaddeus Morris worked together to craft the show's visuals.
