GTCC Larry Gatlin School of Entertainment Technology Experiences RCF in Concert Performance July 4th was more than a celebration of the United States for staff at Guilford Technical College. It was an opportunity for the members of the school's entertainment technology department to experience concert production in a real world application at an Exile concert at Denton Farm Park. As the college has an actual classroom laboratory with a RCF HDL20-A line array system with SUB8006-AS subwoofers for teaching purposes, RCF partners from Morgantown, North Carolina-based Blue Ridge Sound (www.facebook.com/Blue.Ridge.Sound) and Gallatin, Tennessee-based Lonely Dog Productions (www.thedawghouze.com), invited the school staff to see and hear RCF products in an actual concert setting. Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, North Carolina offers a two-year Entertainment Technology program designed to prepare the student for work in the entertainment field (www.gtcc.edu/about/index.php). Curriculum courses range progress from an Introduction to Entertainment to Live Sound Production and Lighting Production, Entertainment Law, Entertainment Promotion to Concert Management. "In the Entertainment Tech program, we offer three AA degrees: artist and venue management, recording engineering, and live sound/concert lighting," says Larry Gatlin School of Entertainment Technology instructor Ron Barrans. "In sound, we instruct on connectivity, power, analog with outboard gear, digital, passive and active systems, design, audio measurement....the list goes on." "Our lab environment is two-fold. Our outside amphitheater is a concrete construction with approximately 150 permanent seats, and areas for temporary seating. The indoor lab is a 70' x 60' concrete and block room with sound drape on tracks. We have a 30' rig height with full fall protection above the grid. We have eight chain hoists and 26 pieces of Tomcat truss." The equipment list in the labs includes a variety of consoles from Allen & Heath, Digico, Behringer, Soundcraft, and Yamaha. Plus three different line array systems including the RCF HDL20-A with SUB8006-AS subwoofers.
