IP65 Proteus Hybrids Just in Time for J&S Audio Visual

J&S Audio Visual took delivery of 12 new Elation Professional Proteus Hybrid fixtures in December and immediately put the IP65-rated moving heads to work on an outdoor show that was anything but dry. "What better occasion to first use them than on an outdoor show," said Hudson Barnes, president Mexico and Caribbean, JSAV. "What we did not count on was that a torrential rain would fall for more than 16 hours before, during, and after the show."

JSAV, which maintains operations in the US, Mexico, and the Caribbean, bought the Proteus Hybrid fixtures for their Mexico facility to replace some top name 1200W fixtures that were proving expensive to maintain. Their initiation took place on December 14th on a private concert event by singer/songwriter Ne-Yo in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where lighting designer Edgar Negron used the multifunctional luminaires to create ambience lighting and special visual effects onto a Magic Sky umbrella.

"During the event it was pouring and the fixtures worked 100-percent no problem," Jens Hollich of JSAV stated. "They are very reliable but best of all the show in its entirety went very well." Hollich goes on to say that besides the Proteus fixtures' IP65 rating, resistance to water and overall reliability, their high light output and flexibility as a spot, beam, and wash were also key factors in the decision to purchase them.

The Proteus Hybrid is Elation's award-winning three-in-one beam/spot/wash moving head with Philips 21R 470W lamp that offers a full feature set, including zoom in all modes. Its multi-environmental IP65 design is proving popular among rental companies that stage outdoor events as the luminaire eliminates the need for costly shrouds and weatherproof coverings.

"It really is a relief not to worry about having to cover them or that something will happen to them with the rain," Barnes adds. "Its performance was the best and the power of the beam of light is excellent, the gobos of an incredible design, and its robust construction make it ready to compete with other leading brands in the market. It was definitely a very good investment." Barnes and JSAV were so satisfied with their purchase that they immediately put another order in for 18 more fixtures, giving them a total of 30 Proteus Hybrid units.
