"Lights! Sound! Curtains up!" at Stage|Set|Scenery 2015

On June 9, 2015 Stage|Set|Scenery will be opening its doors. The international trade fair and the international conference for event technology gathers exhibitors and trade visitors who are important for a successful production: they represent theatre planning, architecture, film, event services, stage, lighting, sound, video and media technology, make-up, costume and stage-set design, acoustics, studio, exhibition, and museum technology. A total of 250 exhibitors and 7,500 trade visitors are expected to attend the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

With Stage|Set|Scenery, Messe Berlin and DTHG, the organizers of the event, aim to address the industry's forward-looking international markets. Leading international manufacturers and service providers from various parts of the industry will be attending and showcasing their projects, products, and innovations. Exhibitors from the following 19 countries have registered to take part: Belgium, China, Germany, Finland, France, the UK, Italy, Canada, Latvia, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia, Spain, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, and the USA. The participation of foreign associations cooperating with DTHG is a measure of the widespread interest in international dialogue. Partnerships and sponsorships have been secured with the Organization of Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT) and with professional organizations from China (CETA), the Netherlands (VPT), Austria (OETHG), Switzerland (SVTB-ASTT), the USA (USITT), the UK (ABTT and PLASA), and Sweden (STTF).

The three-day international Stage Technology Conference is an integral part of Stage|Set|Scenery. On June 9, at 11:30am, Brigitte Zypries, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, will open the trade show and conference with a keynote speech. The symposium will take place in Forum I in Hall 4.2. Its slogan is "Theatres and cultural spaces - urban centers and their continuous metamorphosis and cultural adaptation in the 21st century." Other papers, workshops, and presentations dealing with scenography/design, international projects, media technology, sustainability, and stage and lighting technology will also be taking place. Simultaneous interpreting into English and German will be available at the International Stage Technology Conference. Around 140 individual events will be held.

The supporting program includes numerous specialist events. Below is a selection:

One of the most important issues is that of visitor safety at events and this will be dealt with in depth on the Safety in Action stage in Hall 3.2. Based on the example of a traditional evening event, a look will be taken at the various work routines in the context of the safety issues involved. In addition, there will be fascinating, scientifically researched lectures on safety, pyrotechnics, lasers, rigging, stress analysis, fire protection, and stage-set design.

Stage|Set|Scenery will be hosting three events for stage managers: stage managers' meetings June 10 - 11, 2015 from 10:30am to 1:30pm respectively as well as "Modern control desks for stage managers - as wide-ranging as the arts they serve" on June 11, from 4:30 to 5:15pm in Forum II in Hall 4.2.

At the SoundLab in Hall 3.2 the focus will be on audio, acoustics, and sound systems. The SoundLab was designed in close cooperation with Gerriets GmbH, KS Beschallungstechnik GmbH, Müller-BBM GmbH, Sennheiser Vertrieb und Service GmbH & Co. KG, Shure Distribution GmbH, and Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft. Trade visitors are welcome to come and experience the sound created by state-of-the-art audio technology. Demonstrations under live conditions will be given of the latest developments and products and experts will be on hand to provide advice.

On June 10, at 11:00am (meeting point: hostess counter) a tour will be taking place on the topic of museum and event technology for trade visitors representing galleries, museums, and exhibitions. It will visit the stands of exhibitors at Stage|Set|Scenery that showcase the following products, services, and solutions: movable walls and partitioning systems, suspension points and mounting systems, concepts and scenography, lighting systems, air-conditioning, and measurement systems. The exhibition in Hall 4.2 entitled "The Villingen theatre find - baroque monastery stage magic" will showcase nearly 300 year-old items from the school theatre of a monastery. Hall 4.2 will also be displaying a model of a baroque theatre stage. Other interesting exhibits include stage effect machines such as the "thunder machine" that reflects the state of the art during the baroque period and which will be demonstrated live.

A program of excursions to various studios and event venues will provide trade visitors with an opportunity to directly experience the practical uses of audio, lighting, and studio technology. On June 12, the day after the show, excursions will be taking place to Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb), the Art Department Studio Babelsberg, Big Image Systems, the Friedrichstadtpalast, and to the building site of the State Opera Unter den Linden.

On June 9, from 6:30 to 7:30pm on the Safety in Action stage in Hall 3.2 the OISTAT Architecture Committee will be honoring the winners of the Theatre Architecture Competition (TAC) and the winner of the Weltenbauer Award presented by DTHG for the most original and accomplished technical implementation of an artistic concept by a recent stage performance.

The "Anatomical Theatre" developed by Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden will provide Stage|Set|Scenery with a location for holding numerous training courses for pupils, students, as well as young and experienced professionals. As part of its career guidance service Stage|Set|Scenery will be organizing a national and international job exchange and advertising a range of professional training courses held by academies, technical colleges, and universities. It will also be organizing live demonstrations, including by trainees, given by stage set artists, stage set sculptors, and professional make-up artists. Besides dealing with the technical requirements of a production the papers at Stage|Set|Scenery given by Bund der Szenographen, Wilhelm-Ostwald-Schule, Euraka and Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden will also be highlighting artistic aspects.

Stage|Set|Scenery is open June 9- 10, 2015 from 10:00am to 6:00pm and on June 11, 2015 from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Tickets can be purchased online at the reduced rates of 25 euros for a one-day ticket and 40 euros for a three-day ticket. Prices at the ticket office are 40 euros for a one-day ticket and 65 euros for a three-day ticket. Tickets are valid for admission to the trade show and conference. No extra admission charge will be made for the conference.
