Lycian Followspots Installed in Metropolitan Opera

The Metropolitan Opera in New York City recently installed eight Lycian 1295 ELT Xenon followspots.

These replace the Lycian 1290 XLT 2K followspots that have been the house lights for well over a decade.

The upgrade was done to allow for brighter lighting. The Lycian 1295 offers the flexibility of using 3,000 and 4,000W Xenon lamps. Internal improvements include a fully shielded nichrome iris and dichroic heat shield to protect against the additional heat generated by the brighter lamps, as well as added side shutters. The followspots incorporate a newly designed three plate fader as well.

The Met broadcasts its productions in high definition, so the followspots were required to be bright, with an even field and extremely low flicker.
