The IESNYC Lumen Awards program was conceived by the New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society in 1968. It was developed to publicly recognize lighting design members whose exceptional professionalism, ingenuity, and originality in lighting design has culminated in some of the world's most innovative lighting projects. The Lumens are the oldest lighting design awards program in existence. The Lumen Awards Gala began as a small event and has grown incrementally with each passing year. For the 2019 Gala, over 900 attendees from various sectors of the lighting and other design industries came to celebrate. The Lumen Gala has garnered the well-deserved reputation of being more than an awards presentation. It's also a celebration of the New York City lighting community. 2019 Lumen Awards of Excellence Louvre Abu Dhabi Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Lighting Design by BuroHappold Engineering Chris Coulter, Gabe Guilliams, and David Smith And Transsolar KlimaEngineering (daylighting specialist) Raphael Lafargue, Matthias Rammig, and Matthias Schuler Architect: Ateliers Jean Nouvel Gateway Arch Museum St. Louis, Missouri Lighting Design by Tillotson Design Associates Suzan Tillotson, Ellen Sears, and Katherine Lindsay Architects: Cooper Robertson and James Carpenter Design Consultants with Trivers Associates Claus Porto New York New York, New York Lighting Design by LOOP Lighting Alina Ainza, Ruben Gonzalez, and Ryoko Nakamura Architect: Tacklebox Architect 2019 Lumen Awards of Merit Janet Echelman's Pulse at Dilworth Park Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Lighting Design by Arup Brian Stacy, Joe Chapman, Christoph Gisel, and Star Davis Architect: KieranTimberlake Landscape Architect: OLIN Domino Park Brooklyn, New York Lighting Design by Lighting Workshop Steven Espinoza Architect: James Corner Field Operations The Four Seasons Restaurant New York, New York Lighting Design by Tillotson Design Associates Suzan Tillotson, Erin Dreyfous, and Megan Trimarchi Design Architect: Isay Weinfeld Architect-of-Record: Montroy Anderson DeMarco Millerton Pool House Millerton, Dutchess County, New York Lighting Design by Melanie Freundlich Lighting Design Melanie Freundlich and Pei-Yun Chang Architect: Workshop for Architecture Canadian National Holocaust Monument Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Lighting Design by Focus Lighting Brett Andersen, Juan Pablo Lira, Asier Mateo, and Justin Keenan Miller Architect: Studio Libeskind Landscape Architect: Claude Cormier + Associés Nicollet Mall Minneapolis, Minnesota Lighting Design by Tillotson Design Associates Suzan Tillotson, Erin Dreyfous, and Megan Trimarchi Architects: James Corner Field Operations with Snow Kreilich Architects Landscape Architect: Coen+Partners Park Tower Health Club New York, New York Lighting Design by One Lux Studio Stephen Margulies, Elena Areshina, and Huanhai Cheng Architect: Ted Moudis Associates 2019 Lumen Citation Awards New York Aquarium's Ocean Wonders: Sharks!
