Helen Hayes Nominations AnnouncedThe nominees for the 2018 Helen Hayes Awards were announced February 5. The winners will be announced May 14. The Helen Hayes Awards recognizes and celebrates excellence in professional theatre throughout the Washington metropolitan area. In the Heights, seen in two separate productions, at GALA Hispanic Theatre and a co-production of Olney Theatre Center and Round House Theatre, leads the design categories with five nominations: Robert Croghan for outstanding costume design - Helen; Cory Pattak for outstanding lighting design - Hayes; Christopher Annas-Lee for outstanding lighting design - Helen; Milagros Ponce de León for outstanding set design - Hayes, and Elizabeth Jenkins McFadden for Outstanding Set Design- Helen. The Helen Group of Awards for non-Equity productions defined to be those that have no more than three equity actors or the equity actors make up less than 51-percent of the cast. The Hayes Group of Awards is for productions employing too many equity actors to qualify for the Helen Group.
