Caite Hevner to Appear on Podcast Artistic FinanceBroadway projection designer Caite Hevner joins lighting designer Ethan Steimel on the podcast Artistic Finance to discuss finances both as a freelancer and as the owner of a design studio. In the episode, which went live today, Hevner discusses opening a retirement account and talks about decoupling money from you the individual and tying it instead to the job or art being created. The discussion veers to the 2020 pandemic, during which Hevner moved her design studio to put employees on payroll instead of paying them as contractors. Hevner is a theatrical designer of projections, scenery, and video on and off Broadway and internationally. Broadway projection design credits include Derren Brown: Secret, In Transit, and Harry Connick Jr: A Celebration of Cole Porter, the latter in collaboration with Beowulf Boritt. She is a member of USA829, where she serves as co-chair of the Respectful Workplace Committee, co-chair of the Accountability Taskforce, and has served on Broadway, off-Broadway, and LORT negotiating committees. Artistic Finance is a podcast hosted by Steimel. He interviews other live events workers about finances for freelancers. The weekly show answers common financial questions and provides a resource for artists to have their finance questions answered. Links to the episode can be found below.
