TAIT Rocks Radio City's Famed Christmas Spectacular with Custom Video Wall and Full Video/Motion Integration

Radio City Music Spectacular

For the 2012 production of the famed Radio City Christmas Spectacular, celebrating the 85th anniversary of the Rockettes performing in New York, show producers turned to Tait's rental fleet to produce dynamic, yet sustainable scenic and staging elements. Having worked with Radio City on various shows since 2003, this year's show required Tait to developed a new, custom-made video wall that showcased the show's stunning video content. Tait also provided full video/motion integration that allowed the system to track an image, along with the motion of the screens, to give them the appearance of moving through a continuous video image.

Tait supplied:
- Two downstage lifts: 2'-6"x8' lifts that travel one full cycle of motion in eight seconds, with one axis of motion. The stage lifts use an interlocking system that ensure precise alignment and provides a smooth, level surface for performers.
- Three downstage turntables: 14'11" deep with two axes of motion.
- Four double lifts: 4'-6"x6' non-rolling lifts with +10'-6" of travel and two axes of motion.
- Three single-wide Santa hatches: 2'-10"x7'-4" pneumatically actuated hatch decks with two axes of motion.
- Custom video wall: Powered by Tait's Navigator control system, the wall consists of six LED screens, provided by others. The screens, which are 18' wide and 14' tall, are capable of individual tracking and motion for three separate columns. Navigator provides real-time feedback of the video wall's location, to guarantee that all content is synchronized with the screens' motion. The screens are also programmed with anti-swing technology that allows the one-ton wall to move at high speeds, while still maintaining control.

All Tait elements were shipped in nine standard 53' trucks.
