Atomic Design Sets Up Shop in Los Angeles After over a decade of exporting its scenic goods and design services to the West Coast, Atomic Design has opened an additional location in Los Angeles. The expansion comes on the heels of Atomic's recent involvement with NBC's The Sing Off, The Emmy Awards, and the annual Black and White Ball in San Francisco. "We are so excited about our opening in Los Angeles!" says Soren West, the company's president. "We are honored to feel the demand for our products and services from our west coast and Las Vegas friends. Collaborating with many more creative pros is the goal and we know Los Angeles will give us that opportunity." Atomic was started by designer Tom McPhillips in 1993. While working on sets for touring and live entertainment, including Live By Request, The VMA's and Michael Jackson, McPhillips needed a custom scenic paint and soft goods shop, so he started fabricating. Today, at more than 70 employees, the group has grown to include carpentry, as well as metal and plastic fabrication. The growing inventory of modular solutions led Atomic to establish a dedicated rental team headed up by Rob Barber, general manager. Next came Atomic Lighting, with Brad Hafer and Brett Puwalski. Atomic's clients are enthusiastic about the expansion. Kathy Theis, president at Anthill Productions in Pasadena, California says, "Having Atomic close at hand is great; we love that Atomic is coming west. My colleagues and I get on the phone and drool over the website all the time." Much of Rental's inventory, including the latest hot product, Modular SuperLever, is already making its way west. Rachel Finn, account manager, is standing by in LA to assist clients. She can be reached at Rachel.Finn@atomicrental.tv, and 818.787.2653.
